Connect Oracle EBS R12 to Celonis IBC

In this blog post I will demonstrate how you can connect Celonis IBC to Oracle EBS Release 12 to analyze the Receivables process. Celonis has standard connectors available for Oracle EBS Release 12, the AR connector is one of them.

I start with making a connection to the Oracle EBS R12 database. This could be the operational database, a replicated copy or e.g. a datalake. There are different ways how this connection and data transfer can be implemented. For this example I choose for a direct database connection that contains replicated data from an Oracle EBS R12 instance. I enter the connection settings for the database and the credentials.

Install the Connector from the App Store

In Celonis IBC I go to the Celonis App Store and select the connector for Accounts Receivable for Oracle E-Business Suite. The connector will extract the relevant data, it will transform the data into an event log and it will load the data into the Celonis Process Mining engine.

I click on the ‘Accounts Receivable’ tile and I can see the details of the connector. The Apps in the App Store that work with this connector are also displayed. I click on ‘Connect Process’ and select the connection with Oracle EBS that I defined before.

The connector has a number of parameters. The ‘Language’ parameter determines the language for the data extraction. The ‘Reporting Currency’ parameter determines the currency for the reporting amount calculations. With the ‘Currency Conversion Type’ parameter I can select the rate type for the reporting amount calculations.

Review Extractions and Data Model

I choose for ‘Open Data Pool’ so that I can check the extractions and transformations before the execution. I click on the extraction ‘Extract Oracle EBS AR Tables’ so that I can see what tables will be extracted. Under ‘Transformations’ I see the transformations for the generation of the event log and the related views and tables. I do not change any of the seeded extractions and transformations.

I click on the ‘Process Data Models’ link to open the data model for the AR process. This data model contains the activities table (the event log), the cases table and all related tables and views.

Workday calculations use the Calendar of the data model. I choose to use the calendar in Celonis but I could also choose to define a new calendar that could be based on the workday calendar in Oracle EBS.

Execute the Data Job

I start the execution of the Data Job. The first step is the extraction of the data from the Oracle EBS database. The second step is the transformation of the data to the event log. The last step is the loading of the data model. I can choose for a full load or a delta load. As this is the initial load I choose for full load.

During the execution of the data job I can review the status of the individual steps. I wait until all the steps are completed succesfully.

The data job is finished now and all the data is loaded into the Celonis process mining engine. I define a new analysis and add the Process Explorer. The process model is displayed automatically and I start with analyzing the process. I can now also install any of the AR Apps from the Apps Store to analyze the data in more detail.
